布杜鲁瓦加拉（Buduruwagala）的名字意思是“佛教雕像的岩石”，是由七个巨大雕像组成的引人注目的雕像群，是从韦拉亚亚以南灌木丛中的低矮悬崖上凿成的。中心矗立着一座高约 15 米的佛像，这是岛上最大的立石佛像，两侧是成群的菩萨和侍者，其中包括观世音菩萨和度母等佛像。中央的佛像仍然保留着曾经覆盖它的灰泥长袍和橙色油漆的痕迹。安静、很少拥挤的环境，旁边有一个小水箱，使其成为该地区最有气氛的景点之一。

历史

The carvings date to around the 10th century CE and belong to the Mahayana Buddhist tradition, which was influential in Sri Lanka at the time before Theravada Buddhism became dominant. The presence of bodhisattva figures such as Avalokitesvara and his consort Tara makes Buduruwagala one of the finest surviving expressions of Mahayana art in the country.
