A gentle two-tier waterfall inland from Kalutara with a natural rock pool for swimming, set amid lush lowland jungle.
Overview
Thudugala Ella is a picturesque lowland waterfall tucked into the jungle near Thudugala village, inland from Kalutara town. Water spills over rock ledges into a clear natural pool ringed by ferns and creepers, making it a popular local spot for a refreshing swim away from the coast. A short walk through greenery leads to the falls, which are at their fullest just after rain.
History
The falls lie in the Dodangoda area of Kalutara District and have long been a favourite bathing and picnic spot for locals. Rising about 8 metres, Thudugala Ella is among the many recorded waterfalls catalogued across Sri Lanka's wet-zone hills and lowlands.
