Kurulu Kele, meaning 'bird forest', is a compact forest reserve rising on the edge of Kegalle town, protected as a sanctuary for its birdlife. Shady trails wind up through the trees to a hilltop Buddhist temple and viewpoints over the town and surrounding hills. It is a peaceful green escape close to the centre, popular with local pilgrims and birdwatchers, and an easy walk for those based in Kegalle.

History
