Gal Vihara，即“岩石寺庙”，是波隆纳鲁沃最著名的纪念碑，也是斯里兰卡之旅的一大亮点。灰色花岗岩的一张长面上以宁静的浮雕雕刻出四尊大型佛像：一尊正在冥想的坐佛，一尊雕刻洞穴内较小的坐像，一尊引人注目的 7 米高的双臂交叉在胸前的站立雕像，以及一尊描绘涅槃的 14 米高的宏伟卧佛。石头平静的表情和流畅的线条被认为是波隆纳鲁沃雕塑派的最佳成就。

历史

The images were carved in the 12th century during the reign of King Parakramabahu I, originally as part of a monastery he founded called Uttararama. The rock face once held the statues within individual image houses, traces of which survive. Gal Vihara forms part of the UNESCO-listed Ancient City of Polonnaruwa.
