A montane grassland plateau ending abruptly at a sheer cliff drop known as Mini World's End.
Overview
Pitawala Pathana is a roughly 10-hectare montane grassland perched on a rock slab near Riverston, crossed by a short, easy nature trail. The path leads to Mini World's End, a sudden cliff edge with a drop of around 300 m and long views over the valleys below. The grassland is rich in endemic plants and small wildlife and lies within the Knuckles Conservation Forest.
History
The plateau forms part of the Knuckles montane grassland ecosystem, protected within the Knuckles Conservation Forest and inscribed in 2010 as part of the Central Highlands of Sri Lanka UNESCO World Heritage Site.
