5-Day Sri Lanka Tour
A short, sharp taste of the island — rock fortress, temple city, tea train and one golden beach.
Five days in Sri Lanka is shorter than the island deserves, but it is enough for a trip that feels complete rather than rushed — if you resist the urge to see everything. This short tour package makes one clean choice: the cultural heart of the island plus a single beach finish, connected by the most beautiful train ride in Asia.
The route is simple. From the airport you go straight to Sigiriya for the dawn climb up the rock fortress, then to Kandy for the Temple of the Tooth, then by train through the tea country to Ella for a morning among the peaks and waterfalls. A private transfer brings you down to Galle and Unawatuna for a final day of fort ramparts and warm, calm water before the expressway back to the airport.
It suits a long stopover, a leave-starved week, or a first taste that decides whether to come back for the full loop (spoiler: you will). Every stop links to a full guide below, and the free planner can compress or stretch the route around your flight times.

Budget guidance
What it costs
Short trips carry slightly higher daily costs because the car and driver amortize over fewer days. If you're two or more, a private driver for all five days ($280–350 total) is the difference between seeing this route and merely chasing it. (Indicative prices in USD.)
Value
$55–85/day pp
Guesthouses, the train, buses for the short legs, local eats.
Comfort
$85–160/day pp
Boutique stays, private driver for the road legs, reserved train seats.
Luxury
$160+/day pp
Design hotels in Sigiriya and inside Galle Fort, chauffeur throughout.

Good questions
Is 5 days enough for Sri Lanka?
Five days is enough for a satisfying first taste — one ancient site, Kandy, the hill-country train and a beach day — provided you keep to one clean route like this one rather than criss-crossing the island.
What can you realistically see in 5 days?
This route covers Sigiriya Rock Fortress, the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy, the Kandy–Ella train, Ella's peaks and waterfalls, Unawatuna beach and Galle Fort — the island's greatest hits in a single arc.
Should I skip the beach with only 5 days?
No — finishing at the coast puts you 2.5 expressway hours from the airport, which is far more relaxing than ending up-country. If you'd rather trade the beach for a Yala safari, the planner can rework the last two days.
